BRADFORD City Women are targeting revenge tonight as they welcome Guiseley Vixens in the FA Women’s Premier League at Eccleshill United (7.30) – just eight days after City lost to them in the West Riding County Cup final.

The Bantams saw their five-year reign in the competition end last Wednesday as, despite taking an early lead through Ellie White, they fell to a 3-1 defeat to their bitter rivals.

But assistant manager Faye Boshell is confident that will serve as great motivation for City to get three points tonight.

“We will be going into the game with a point to prove,” she said.

“The team will definitely be up for it and they will be doing it for each other.

"We want to put on a performance that we know we’re capable of.”

“We will have players back who we missed a lot last week too, particularly Hannah Campbell out wide.”

City started last week’s final well, with White deservedly putting them ahead, rifling the ball into the far corner after setting herself up well on the edge of the box.

However, Beth Stanfield equalised just before half-time before Olivia DaCosta and Nikki Berko gave the Vixens a massive, unexpected victory.

For them to repeat the feat tonight would perhaps be an even greater upset, considering that Guiseley have only taken one point from Bradford in the FA Women’s Premier League.

That was earlier this season in a 2-2 draw, another result which should motivate City tonight.

But the one fresh in the minds of the players is last week’s loss, and Boshell is looking for the team to be more positive, both mentally and in their football, tonight in order to get a much better result.

“We will definitely be looking to be more positive this time around,” she said.

“We need to keep our heads. We started the game so strong last week, but as soon as we conceded that first goal, all of our heads just went down. Then because of that we were on the back foot.

“For this game though, we are going into it with the mentality of having nothing to lose. We want to finish the season well.”
