Pre-season friendly: Penistone Church 2 Brighouse Town 1

BRIGHOUSE Town’s up-and-down pre-season continued with a 2-1 defeat at Penistone Church last night to leave Vill Powell’s men with two victories and two defeats from four friendlies.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 36th minute with the only goal of the first half and they doubled their advantage in the 75th minute before Town hit back.

Jacob Buchanan netted from the penalty spot after Adam Jones had been fouled.

Brighouse will soon be back in action as they make the short journey to Eccleshill United tomorrow.

The derby is one of four Wednesday games, with six of the area’s semi-pro sides in action, including an FC Halifax Town XI.

Meanwhile, Guiseley will play their penultimate friendly tonight.

The Lions are at Penistone’s Toolstaion Northern Counties East Premier Division rivals Handsworth Parramore.

Guiseley’s last warm-up game is at Nethermoor against Darlington on Saturday before their third season in the Vanarama National League gets underway with a home game against Ebbsfleet United a week on Saturday.

The Lancashire outfit will be coming back to the area to cross swords with Brighouse Town in Evo-Stik Division One North during the new season.
