West Riding County FA Trophy: Burley Trojans 5 Boroughbridge Reserves 2

BURLEY Trojans progressed in convincing style against Boroughbridge Reserves.

After the previous week's win, Burley made an excellent start when Boroughbridge gifted Eddy Bryan a goal with a short back pass.

Dan Henderson and Chris Wheeler linked up well in the central midfield, and this led to the second goal.

Henderson’s delicate through ball slipped in Chris Holmes to score, but Boroughbridge were given a lifeline just before half-time when Stuart Dibb put through his own net after a free-kick for the visitors.

In the second half, Burley's two-goal cushion was restored as Bryan nipped in to score when the ball bounced over the Boroughbridge keeper.

Paddy Bibby, who replaced player-manager Tom Higman, made a big difference.

His quick feet and fresh legs were too much for the Boroughbridge defence to handle, and he skipped past two defenders only to be brought down by a third.

Simon Walker dispatched the penalty, but Boroughbridge, who forced Wheeler to clear a corner off their line, were again handed a lifeline as Holmes, in a moment of madness, brought down the Boroughbridge winger, who had been kept quiet all game by Ben Garnham.

Boroughbridge netted the penalty, which made for a nervy last 20 minutes, but they were calmed as Bibby went on another run down the left wing and squared the ball for Walker to tap in his fifth goal in three games.

On Saturday, Trojans entertain Addingham in a derby which kicks-off at Ben Rhydding Sports Club at 2pm.
