Helperby United 2 Burley Trojans 3

BURLEY Trojans secured their first Heck Foods Harrogate League Premier Division win of the season at the sixth attempt.

After three draws and two defeats they finally secured a victory which was sealed with another stunning goal from player-manager Tom Higman.

Burley travelled with a full squad and midfieldman Dan Henderson was soon dictating play.

Chris Holmes went close in the opening minutes, shooting just over the bar, but the breakthrough didn’t take too long to come.

Henderson was fouled in the box and Simon Walker expertly dispatched the spot kick.

Helperby went close from set pieces but both Stuart Dibb and Dave Healey kept strong in the centre of defence.

Before the break the ever-present Holmes lost his marker on the right hand side and fired a shot low into the net.

Helperby came out for the second-half on the offensive and were handed a lifeline when the referee pointed to the spot after the ball had struck Richard Bryan's arm.

Trojans battled hard and were rewarded when Paddy Bibby, a thorn in Helperby's side on the left wing all day, lost his marker and squared the ball to Higman who fired home from 15 yards.

Helperby went route one and caught Burley on the break as their striker skipped past Holmes and struck home to make it an interesting end to the game but Trojans hung on for the win.
