STEETON are through to the semi-finals of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup after a hard-fought victory over holders Beeston St Anthony's.

The only goal came on 20 minutes when Tom Sowerbutts, who had come on as substitute for the injured Ben Richardson, headed home from close range following a Olly Hunter free-kick.

However, the visitors were made to defend in depth against their West Yorkshire League rivals.

Salts came close to joining fellow Taylor's Timber West Riding County Amateur League side Steeton in the last four.

The Saltaire club led 2-0 at half-time at Carlton Athletic but were edged out 5-4 against the unbeaten West Yorkshire League Premier Division leaders.

Jonny Cunnington and Luke Lavery notched braces for Salts, while Scott Hargreaves (2), Anees Younis, Scott Burns and Reece Fennell netted for the winners.

Steeton Reserves could not make it a double for the Summerhill Lane club though as they slipped out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy, beaten 3-0 at Huddersfield & District League Division One leaders Meltham Athletic.

In the league, Golcar United took advantage of their rival’s games being postponed due to waterlogged grounds – Littletown against Honley and Newsome at Lower Hopton – to extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division, winning 3-2 at second-from-bottom DRAM Community.

Ryan John, Kiero Lawrence and Ben Bennett were on target for United, with Tebo M’Pala and Donae Lawrence scoring for the home side.

Campion should have easily beaten visitors Overthorpe Sports Club, but missed twice from the penalty spot and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Jordan Missin and Chris Helliwell were Campion's marksmen, with Sam Sweeney and Reece Patterson replying.

The race for the four potential promotion places from Division One stepped up a pace as leaders Britannia Sports beat Churwell Lions 4-0 and Holmfirth Town netted 15 times without reply against visitors Westbrook YMCA.

West Horton were 3-1 down at half-time home to Tyersal, but scored all eight goals in the second half to move up to fourth.

Lee Smith (3), Mohammed Khan (2), Kamran Khan (2), Shazad Iqbal and Mohammed Ikram were West Horton's marksmen, but Thornton United had to settle for a point when they shared six goals at home to Hunsworth.

Danny Walker, Ryan Stubbs and Connor Mullaney scored for United, with Hunsworth’s Chas Taylor bagging a hat-trick.

Jamie Brennan netted for Wibsey in their 1-1 draw at Golcar United Reserves, but Ventus Yeadon Celtic's chances of a promotion push received a setback as visitors Wakefield City triumphed 5-2.

Salts Reserves maintained top spot in Division Two after a 5-1 home victory against Littletown Reserves, with goals coming from Wayne Walsh (2), Jamie Birchall, Ryan Boguslawski and Oliver Hulme.

Thornton United Reserves moved into third after winning 3-2 at Tingley Athletic, while Tyersal Reserves and Bradford drew 1-1.
