Menston St Mary’s U-19s 4 Ilkley Grammar School 1

MENSTON St Mary’s SChool U-19 football team maintained their 100 per cent record this season despite having to make several forced changes for the game against Ilkley Grammar School.

With Captain Tom Copsey having to play in goal and several other players playing in different positions this was never going to be an easy game.

However, it was St Mary’s who opened the scoring with a free-kick from Pete McCarthy, although Ilkley equalised within minutes from a penalty.

Callum Hall put St Mary’ ahead with a well-taken effort and just before half-time Andrew Tindall scored an outstanding goal from well outside the 18 yard box.

In the second-half St Mary’s took control of the game defending solidly and playing a fast passing game. A clever flick from Gareth Parry, making his debut for the first team, set up Jacob Talbot to score St Mary’s fourth goal.

This was a good team performance in difficult circumstances. Man-of-the-match was Ed Knox for his tireless work in midfield.
