Shipley Town 3 Ilkley Dynamo 5

ILKLEY Dynamo, holders of the Wharfedale and District FA Sunday Cup ensured a second-round spot after defeating Shipley in a fast and furious game at Esholt.

The visitors defended valiantly in the early stages with Sam Westerman prominent in cutting out a number of dangerous attacks from the home side.

Benji Claydon was an inspiration playing as striker and his well-taken goal confirmed the gradual Dynamo domination.

Some fine passing and movement by both Robbie Oldham and Struan Connor resulted in Claydon adding his second to make it 2-0 after he produced some neat composure in front of goal. Comfortably ahead, Dynamo suffered a crucial blow when Simon Ogilvie, giving an outstanding performance at centre back in his second game, succumbed to hamstring problems and had to be withdrawn.

Dynamo became sluggish and two quick goals from Joe Keen put the home side level at 2-2. Both teams struggled to unlock the stalemate before Danny Mathers netted from close range for Shipley to put them 3-2 in front.

Dynamo kept pressing before Stuart Blues worked hard before sending over a powerful cross to enable Lee McGowan to head home an equaliser.

David Freer, the Dynamo keeper, made a stunning reflex before Henry Barrow hit home an accurate left foot shot to make it 4-3.

Claydon completed his well-deserved hat-trick late on as he rifled home his third to put Dynamo through to the second round.
