Ilkley Dynamo 2 Keighley Town 2 (aet)

Keighley won 3-2 on penalties

DYNAMO saw a two-goal lead disappear before losing in a penalty shoot-out in an absorbing Wharfedale Triangle League Cup final at Thackley.

Dynamo, bidding to retain the trophy they won last year, began brightly. They enjoyed most of the possession and the majority of the play thanks to a combination of effort, energy and enterprise.

Another outstanding contribution from Danny Bryan was rewarded when he pounced to put Dynamo 1-0 ahead after 15 minutes.

A fine captain's performance from Craig Bentham ensured they maintained control early on and the selfless target man Tom Higman made no mistake from close range to double the lead.

After Dynamo had a possible third goal disallowed, they began to get pegged back. Keighley hit back when a header by James Gill made it 2-1.

Keighley were afforded a number of opportunities to counter attack. Shane Etherington, the Dynamo keeper, made a couple of fine saves before Leon Smith levelled matters.

Dynamo hit the crossbar and had a goalbound effort cleared off the line in extra time so the match went to penalties.

The weary Dynamo players lost the penalty shoot out 3-2 and with it went their ten-game unbeaten run and the cup.
