Old Modernians 2 Ilkley Town 1

ILKLEY 's hopes of building on their fine home win against Altofts were shattered as they allowed an early lead to slip from their grasp.

Ilkley started at a fast pace and moved the ball well, putting the Mods defence under pressure at every opportunity. It was neat interplay that led to the opening goal after 20 minutes.

Ilkley worked the ball well to the edge of the penalty area where Connor Greenwood played it back to Isaac Crown who hit it with the outside of the foot into the top corner.

Ilkley were dominant in possession for the first 35 minutes and looked to add to their tally. As so often happens, whilst trying to play, a poor decision was made. Ilkley were dispossessed and the ball played through to the league's top scorer and he made no mistake from 15 yards.

For the next ten minutes Ilkley lost both confidence and shape and were fortunate to make it to half-time on level terms.

The team talk clearly didn't do the trick and a corner was conceded in the 48th minute.

One of the Old Mods players found far too much space and shouldered the ball goalbound before it was bundled into the net,.

From here Old Mods worked hard and were too strong for their opponents who didn't manage a meaningful effort on goal in the second half.

Ilkley were once again left to reflect on a defeat that was avoidable. Darren Munday was Town's man of the match.
