King George V 3 Ilkley Dynamo 1
With the home side unbeaten in 16 games Dynamo always knew they faced a tough West Riding FA County Sunday Cup quarter-final tie.
A good travelling support coupled with a large home crowd ensured a competitive atmosphere.
The morning began full of promise for Dynamo as they made an early impact on the game. Danny Kenna, who was providing another potent performance in midfield, provided a fine through pass for Danny Henderson.
The prolific marksman made no mistake as he rifled home his 16th goal of the season to put the visitors 1-0 ahead.
Dynamo could not capitalise on this advantage and the team appeared to be rushed in possession.
The dead-ball situations always looked dangerous and it was from a free kick that Tom Whitworth pounced for King George to bring them on level terms at 1-1.
Most of the rest of the first half remained a stalemate with Simon Walker making another big contribution for the visitors.
However, the home side struck again through Tony Morris, the result of a goalmouth scramble and after being ahead early on, Dynamo found themselves 2-1 down.
Their normal fluency on the ball was kept in check as the home side put up a solid barrier.
King George relied on some speedy attacks and James Win-ward, the Dynamo fullback, was equal in blocking some pacey attempts on his team’s goal.
A late battling performance by Dynamo could not provide any breakthrough and it was Daniel Critchlow who provided a third goal for King George to make the final score 3-1 Defeat was disappointing for Dynamo but they learned a lot about playing from playing tougher opposition.
