Hartshead 1 Ilkley Dynamo 2

Dynamo secured another hard- earned victory at Hartshead in the second round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup.

The match, postponed from the previous week, was played on a small, sloping pitch and turned out to be a highly-competitive con-test throughout.

The visitors started the better of the two sides, with their endeavour and work rate contributing to some sustained early pressure.

A couple of clear-cut chances were fluffed before prolific marks-man Danny Henderson pounced to give Dynamo a 1-0 lead.

The Ilkley side were not afraid to continue to push forward, with Chris Holmes prominent.

Many of their attacks were repelled, however, by an uncom-promising Hartshead defence.

Their tactics were simple. The Heavy Woollen League side put men behind the ball and then relied on the quick break to relieve pressure.

After soaking up some persis-tent Dynamo attacks, Hartshead’s Steve Young broke forward on the hour to level the scores at 1-1.

Despite all their zip and intent, Dynamo lacked that clinical touch in front of goal.

Both Sam Jacomb and Michael Bloom made some exemplary tackles at the heart of the Dynamo rearguard as the visi-tors’ early pressure began to peter out.

However, the lead was even-tually restored when Henderson’s attempt at a dribble inside the penalty area resulted in him being pulled back and a spot kick being awarded.

The consistent Danny Bryan hit a powerful shot from the spot to put Dynamo 2-1 ahead.

In the latter stages, the Dynamo goalkeeper, Shane Etherington, made a couple of crucial saves to ensure they maintained their recent run of good form to go through to the third round.

This week Dynamo, the holders, are at home to Yeadon Crown in Wharfedale & District FA Sunday Cup.
