Old Centralians 2 Ilkley Town 0

Once again Town couldn’t find a killer touch in fron of goal and were made to pay for their errors.

Old Centralian took advantage of defensive mistakes to establish a 15th-minute lead.

Ilkley then hammered away at the home defence before gifting away a second goal in the final minute.

The combination of unusually windy conditions and a bobbly pitch did not help the players.

Town made a slow start allowing Aaron Rothery and Daniel Hornegould time and space to control the ball in forward positions.

They combined to fashion the first goal.

James Wilson and Ben Dexter had chances to clear but dallied and allowed Rothery to lift the ball into the six-yard box where James Hirst was beaten the ball by Hornegould who scored.

Hirst took a blow to the head but still managed to make fine save from Tom Rawson when the Centralians player got behind the Ilkley defence and drilled a low shot goalwards.

Damian Smith and Chris Alderson were introduced for the second half and Ilkley dominated possession but couldn’t break through.

Then came the second Ilkley gift as a back pass fell short of Hirst and his attempted clearance rico- cheted off Hornegould and to Rawson who pushed the ball into an empty net.
