Ilkley Town’s commercial director Michael Eardley has just launched a new book which he hopes will promote non-league soccer.

Route 66 describes his visits to the 66 football grounds of Yorkshire last season.

The 41-year-old father of three from Ilkley, who writes under the name of Michael Mowbray, got the idea for the book after a visit to watch Guiseleyin October 2010.

He hopes his story will encourage the people of Yorkshire to visit their local non league clubs.

Michael believes that “the battle is getting fans to try non league football.

He said: “I fell into this category until I visited Nethermoor, the home of Guiseley AFC, in October 2010. I was hooked! Entering a non league ground feels like entering the front room of a family home.

“You can also just turn up minutes before the kick off, no problems with getting tickets or heavy traffic and you certainly notice the difference in your wallet. It is also very child friendly”.

The book will be available now from a variety of bookshops, including the Grove Bookshop in Ilkley price £15.99.
