Ilkley Dynamo 3 Keighley New Variety 2
Ilkley Dynamo’s ambition to finish runners up in the Wharfedale Triangle League Premier Division was given a significant boost with a late winning goal on Sunday Neither side could break the deadlock early in the game with Shane Etherington, the Dynamo goalkeeper in particularly fine form.
Although the home team kept probing, few chances were created by either side.
The game needed a spark and this came from two magnificent strikes by Leon Smith of Keighley.
He found the target twice within four minutes and Dynamo were suddenly 2-0 down.
After the break Dynamo gave a much more powerful performance and reacted with a stronger and more positive approach.
A fine run from Danny Henderson found Phil Thomessen who made no mistake from close range to pull a goal back and make it 2-1.
Dynamo pushed forward with more determination and gradually clawed their way back into the game.
After one penalty appeal had been turned down a second was given and Danny Bryan slammed in the spot kick in the 80th minute to level the scores at 2-2.
Man of the match Sam Jacomb gave another excellent performance for Dynamo and numerous chances were created in a late effort to find another goal.
This came from the hard-working midfielder Danny Bott who pounced in the 86th minute.
He reacted the quickest to a loose ball and hit home a worthy winner which had resulted in a remarkable turnaround for Dynamo.
If they continue to play as a team the good results will come.
