Harrogate & District League Premier Division: Pannal Sports 0 Burley Trojans 0

AFTER having their opening game of the season cancelled as neighbours Addingham could not raise a team, Burley Trojans gained a well-deserved point with a battling performance in a scoreless game at Pannal Sports on Saturday.

Under new manager Tom Higman, a former Guiseley AFC defender, Burley gave a strong defensive performance in which Ben Garnham, Stuart Dibb, Richard Bryant and Eddy Bryant stood strong in the pouring rain and then the blazing sun.

Wingers Danny Bryant and Chris Holmes stood out with some tireless running as Higman's team opened their season in the Heck Foods Harrogate and District League Premier Division.

Their best chance of opening their account fell to Simon Walker but he scuffed it wide.

Higman was pleased with the way his side battled and hopes to build on that on Saturday when Trojans entertain second-placed Thirsk Falcons at Ben Rhydding Sports Club.

Thirsk are currently second in the league having won all three games played so far.

Leading the table are Harlow Hill who have played five games, garnering 10 points.

Trojans are seeking to boost their squad and any players interested should e-mail Ben Garnham at bengarnham@hotmail.co.uk
