Batteyford 2 Ilkley Town Ladies 5

ILKLEY produced a stunning performance to knock Batteyford out of the West Riding County Women’s League Cup.

Despite falling behind to their Premier Division opponents, Third Division Ilkley hit back to win in style.

Georgia Barr had already rattled the woodwork before Batteyford took the lead with a speculative lob over stand-in keeper Becky Gill.

This galvanised the team and led by Hannah Spivey and Natasha Sunderland in midfield they began to play some attractive free-flowing.

They equalised in the 17th minute when Georgia Barr scored after a great piece of hold up play by Bella Forbes.

Three minutes later they were ahead. Barr was again on target after good work from Steph Ellam.

Batteyford had no answer to Ilkley’s sense of adventure and they extended their lead when a good ball out of defence from Sophie Jones saw Forbes pounce to slot home.

Barr completed her hat-trick just before the interval when she rounded the keeper, kept her balance, and slotted home.

The second half saw Batteyford try and get back into it but Ellam, Claire McTigue and Livvi Barraclough held firm in defence.

When the home side did find their way through they saw Gill produce a couple of timely saves.

As the hailstones came down Ilkley got a fifth goal when Hannah Spivey headed in from Ellam’s corner to make it 5-1.

Batteyford pulled one back but Ilkley had more chances before the final whistle.
