Ilkley Dynamo 3 Yeadon Crown 1

Holders Ilkley Dynamo secured a place in the semi-finals of the Wharfedale & District FA Sunday Cup after a hard-earned victory against Yeadon Crown.

The visitors were willing to move the ball around and, despite all the energy and possession from Dy-namo, the teams remained dead-locked for most of the first half.

Despite some great momentum from Craig Bentham, who regularly found space and time in midfield, Dynamo found it hard to break through.

Just before the interval, Crown went ahead after battling forward Tristan Holdsworth scored from close range.

The holders responded with a number of team changes and adopted a hard-running direct style of play.

A header from Danny Kenna ricocheted off the keeper for Danny Henderson to react the quickest and claim his tenth goal of the season to equalise at 1-1. Dynamo then went into overdrive and an inspired performance from James Winward, coupled with a much more creative team effort, even-tually broke the dogged Yeadon resistance.

Two well-taken goals from the effective Luke Hudson, who continues to make a big impact on the team, contributed to a late surge from Dynamo as they carved open the visitors’ defence to make the final score 3-1.

A positive late effort had ensured Dynamo kept alive their hopes of retaining the cup.

This week, Dynamo visit Cott-ingley at Northcliffe, Shipley in the second round of the Wharfedale Triangle League’s Senior Cup.
