Burley Trojans 7 TVR United 6

Burley Trojans were involved in a 13 goal thriller on Saturday as they took on Bradford-based TVR United in the West Riding FA Challenge Trophy.

The Trojans raced into a two-goal lead after just five minutes thanks to strikes from the in-form Lee McGowan from the penalty spot and right back Rob Wheeler who lobbed the keeper from 18 yards.

Just when Burley looked comfortable the away side snatched two goals on the break and levelled at 2-2 with just 25 minutes gone.

The goals continued to flow. McGowan restored Trojans’ lead but again TVR hit back with two goals to lead 4-3.

Ben Garnham placed a shot into into the bottom corner to level things then struck his second of the game just before half-time to give his side a 5-4 lead.

The second half was much the same with both teams having spells of possession.

Once more the away team threatened and equalised with another quick move.

The Troggs responded and went ahead once more after a long range strike by Garnham was tipped onto the crossbar by TVR’s keeper and Jonny Keith followed up from close range.

The goal of the game and the match winner was saved until last.

Dave Healey spotted McGowan with a superb ball from just inside the TVR half.

McGowan brought the ball down with one touch and rifled a shot into the net to complete his fourth hat-trick of the season to clinch Trojans’ place in the next round.
