Burley Trojans 7 Boroughbridge A 3

Lee McGowan scored his third hat-trick of the season as Trojans inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Division Two leaders in the Harrogate League Cup.

Simon Walker opening the scoring with a cross which floated over the goalkeeper and into the net before McGowan got in on the act to establish a 2-0 half-time lead.

With Trojans playing at a high tempo, Boroughbridge posed few problems for the home back four in which centre backs Guy Smith and Tom Hunter impressed.

Burley started the second half on the front foot and extended their lead to 4-0 thanks to a thunderous 18-yard strike from left back David Healey and McGowan’s second of the game.

The Trojans may have thought they were in a comfortable position, but Boroughbridge clearly didn’t agree.

They rallied and pulled two goals back after catching Trojans cold from set pieces.

The three-goal lead was restored thanks to a sublime through ball from Paul Barker which set up Ben Garnham to round the keeper and coolly slot home to make it five.

McGowan scored his third of the game with a header before the visitors pulled another goal back on the counter attack.
