Ilkley Dynamo 3 Yeadon Veterans 0

Ilkley Dynamo produced a powerful team performance to secure a momentous 3-0 victory against Yeadon Veterans in the Wharfedale and District FA Sunday Cup final at Otley on Sunday.

Yeadon went into the final looking to complete a trouble after winning the Premier Division of the Wharfedale Triangle League without losing a game and beating Keighley Town 2-0 in last month’s League Cup final.

Yeadon were clear favourites but Dynamo gave a superb performance in ensuring Yeadon were denied a third trophy.

Dynamo took the game to Yeadon in the early stages and the tactic worked perfectly.

Their momentum and fluency resulted in Yeadon struggling.

A well-motivated Dynamo team found space as they continued to drive forward.

A number of chances were created before top scorer Phil Thomessen fired home his 21st goal of the season to put Dynamo ahead on the 20 minute mark.

Yeadon had some sporadic moments but a well-drilled Dynamo midfield in which man of the match Danny Bott excelled, ensured Ilkley maintained control.

Some impressive defending from both Darren Munday and Sam Jacomb gave Yeadon few opportunities.

The Dynamo team, spurred on by a large crowd, played well throughout and made sure it was not to be the straightforward final that many had predicted.

None of the big players from Yeadon excelled as Dynamo played with poise and intelligence.

An outstanding perform- ance by the hard-working Danny Kenna was rewarded when he rounded a stranded goalkeeper to put Dynamo 2-0 ahead after a fine solo run.

Both James Winward and Tom Higman battled hard to keep Dynamo on top as they continued to look the better team.

They attacked frequently and continually looked to push further ahead.

Another of the Dynamo hard working midfielders, Danny Bryan, crowned a very powerful performance when he hit home the third goal.

It made certain that Dynamo would lift the Machell Trophy for the third time.

Their previous wins were in 1982 and 1984.

Club captain Michael Bloom raised the trophy for Dynamo six days after his brother Andy had lifted the Challenge Cup, to make it a notable double for both the Ilkley teams.

The successful Ilkley Dynamo management team of Shaun Bishop and Danny Forrest had got their tactics spot on.

They masterminded a victory in an entertaining match that was a good advertisement for local football end enjoyable for the large crowd.
