Medals for Otley gymnasts
Otley Rhythmic Gymnastics Club again featured as medal winners last weekend when three squads from the club entered the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Duets and Trios Competition at Burton-upon- Trent.
Girls from the club competed in the U-12 ribbon duet, junior ball trio and senior trio mixed apparatus, featuring two hoops and a pair of clubs.
The U-12 ribbon duet performed by Ellen Daly, 11, of Otley and Millie Thomas, 11, of Horsforth, was executed in a clean concise manner with well matched timing and placed them as bronze medal winners.
Competing in the junior ball trio, Ruth Brabiner, 12, of Rawdon; Hannah Brown, 12, of Guiseley and Zoë Carey-Williams, 14, of Harrogate, demonstrated great fluidity with the ball but failed to be placed in a medal position.
Otley's senior group trio was beaten to gold medal position by 0.25 after performing a virtually perfect, well synchronised routine.
The girls, Carolyn Bate 15, of West Park and Emily Williams 13, and Hannah Williams, 15, of Horsforth have previously performed together and their confidence within one another's abilities was clearly seen throughout the routine.
They performed a number of difficult catches and gained outstanding marks.
Senior Coach Karen Harper commented upon the high level of talent displayed at the competition due to the number of British National Champions 2007, who were performing in duets or trios.
"Standards at the competition were exceptionally high and I am delighted with the results obtained by our girls.
"Enthusiasm and dedication to training resulted in a fantastic day of competition."
Limited places are at present available for girls aged 4-16 wishing to train as either novice or competitive gymnasts.
The club caters for girls of all abilities and provides an enjoyable and sociable way of keeping fit.
Further details on the sport and class availability are available from Karen Harper on 07947 123293.
Otley Rhythmic Gymnastics Club will be holding its annual club display on Saturday.
