Top amateurs in Bradford GC Hawksworth Trophy
The prestigious Hawksworth Trophy, a 36 hole strokeplay competition for the leading amateur golfers throughout the north of England, is being held again at Bradford Golf Club, Hawksworth, on Saturday.
This exclusive event is one of 17 major events throughout the season, which constitute the Yorkshire Order of Merit. It attracts a top class field and has been a prominent feature in The Bradford Golf Club calendar for nearly 40 years.
The 2007 competition was won by Simon Bell, playing out of Shipley Golf Club, with a two-round gross score of 140, 2 under par.
Simon is now a member of Baildon Golf Club and will be defending his title this year.
This year's field of 64 players, with an average handicap of one, includes three other past winners in England international Roger Roper and Yorkshire county players Adam Best and Richard Broadley.
First time entrant, Matthew Evans of Rotherham and Yorkshire is the lowest handicapper at plus 2.
The Club Head Professional Andrew Hall says "We're honoured to host the Hawksworth Trophy again this year. It's a fabulous and challenging competition, which attracts a top class field to the Club."
