THE first event in the Harrogate District Summer Race League was won by Ilkley Harriers' Rob Little, with Matthew Cox and Istvan Jacso in the top 10 places. Monica Padila was the first female Harrier to cross the line.

Little stormed to victory in a stunning time of 27 minutes and 15 seconds, nearly two minutes clear of Cox in seventh (29.07). Jacso rounded off the top ten with his time of 29.36.

Padila came home in 34.09, while Daniel McKeown came 15th overall with a time of 30.02. Other Harriers to finish in the top 100 were: Jonathan Turner (32.44), Kate Archer (34.23), Steve Murray (34.36) and Mike Abrams-Cohen (34.48).

The Skipton event attracted 30 Ilkley Harriers, with the warm summer weather enticing many out to midweek meets like this, as well as weekend races.

It was also a beautiful evening in Haworth for the Bronte 5-mile race, where Colin Williams crossed the line in 41st with a time of 34.02. The other two Harriers to compete were Andrew Jackson (40.06) and Fiona Schneider (47.25).

The prolific Jack Wood finished 17th in the short British Championship race at Tal y Mignedd in North Wales with a time of 36.11, while Alison Weston came 177th in 51.15.

Jim Ryder was the only Ilkley Harrier at the Weets Race, near Barnoldswick, and he achieved an impressive 28th place finish in a field of 206 runners, recording a time of 45.55.

Meanwhile, the Settle Saunter attracted half a dozen Ilkley Harriers on Sunday, including Petra Bijsterveld, who faced with a choice of distances, opted for the 13-mile event. The sweltering conditions made for an arduous race throughout.

Helen Thurston went to the Lake District for the Keswick Mountain Festival. There were lots of sporting events including triathlons, open water swims, a sportive and 5km, 10km, 25km and 50km trail races.

Thurston finished third female in the scenic and hilly 25km trail race, with a time of two hours, 32 minutes and nine seconds.

Having been selected for England in the International Mountain Running Youth Cup in Italy on June 16, Euan Brennan will now represent Great Britain at the European Mountain Running Championships in Skopje, Macedonia on July 1 too.

There were some fine female performances in Yorkshire's Parkruns at the weekend.

Rachel Carter was the first female, and eighth overall, at Skipton with a time of 20 minutes and 36 seconds, while Sally Malir came first female, and 29th overall, at Bradford, recording a time of 21.24.

Malir was in a field of 429 runners at Bradford and finished less than a second ahead of Harriers teammate Oscar Street, who came 39th in 22.13.

Alongside Carter at Skipton were Harriers athletes Neil Pomfret and Nicola Budding, who came 28th and 54th, with times of 23.11 and 25.22 respectively. Finally, Fiona Schneider came 247th in Harrogate, finishing in 27.13.
