ILKLEY Harriers achieved great success at the local Up the Odda fell race at Hawksworth, as Paul Castle and Robin Nicholson won the relay version of the race, while Nathan Edmondson stormed to second place in the individual run.

The race is run over 10 kilometres and it comprises of two 5k loops on farm tracks and woodland, with steep climbs and descents. Nicholson and Castle ran 5k each in the "duo" version and were the first pair over the line.

Edmondson ran the whole course and crossed the line in 40 minutes and four seconds, narrowly missing out on victory in what was a memorable day for the Harriers.

Saturday's race saw a creditable 50th place finish for Steve Murray, with a time of 51.53, while Sue Williamson achieved 179th place, coming home in one hour, 15 minutes and 45 seconds.

A good contingent from Otley AC made the short trip to Hawksworth too, with Graham Lake and Jackie Ackroyd winning their age categories, and Lake finishing seventh overall with a time of 44 minutes and six seconds.

Ackroyd won her category in just under an hour, crossing the line in 59.34, while Martin Stringer (52.45), Andy Webster (59.28) and Mary Hampshire (59.30) also dipped below the 60 minute mark.

The weather was particularly hot and made for a challenging race, so all of those who competed could be proud of their efforts.

Back to Ilkley Harriers, and they had success elsewhere at the weekend. Jack Wood continued his scintillating form this season with victory at the 5k Parkrun in Skipton. He finished in an extraordinary time of 16.16 to take the spoils.

Stephen Coy and Rob Cunningham also ran well, with both crossing the line in under 20 minutes to record top 10 finishes. Coy completed the course in 18.45, while Cunningham was just behind in 19.10.

Geoff Howard recorded a 26th place finish with his run of 22.27, while Karen Lambe came home in 85th, with her effort of 26.56.

Alex Hirst has put in some impressive Parkrun performances this year and he maintained his form in the 5k at Cardiff. His time of 17.30 was enough to secure eighth place overall.

Adrian Bastow did not have to travel quite as far, as he took on the Bradford 5k Parkrun. In a busy field of 474 runners, he will have been happy with his 30th place finish, crossing the line in 22.00.

Finally, Hilda Coulsey took on the Parkrun at Fountains Abbey and she ran well, beating over 300 other runners to come home in 110th place, with a time of 24.40.
