Scott Harrington produced another outstanding performance to win the Spen 20 Road Race. Harrington beat a strong field to finish first in a contest which was also this year's Yorkshire Championships.

Despite the course taking in over 1,500 feet of climbing, Harrington finished in an astonishing time of 1.53.37.

Meanwhile, at Keighley Leisure Centre, a slightly more light-hearted event, the Keighley BigK 10K organised by the Sue Ryder charity, was taking place.

Good friends Rob Fearnley, Donna Edmondson, Sarah Belt and Matt Podd took part on a full-filled run.

Rob was there to support the aforementioned charity, with Matt competing to support improvers into racing. It was Donna's first ever race, while Sarah was "bullied" into it by Matt.

Matt described the route as very interesting, his particular highlights included going through a builders merchant yard; lots of snickets and ginnels; muddy paths; obscure back streets and three parks.

He was impressed by the local turnout, stating that many supporters came out to line the route in their pyjamas and onesies.

Matt's only complaint was that the organisers are having to post their T-shirts out to them, as they hadn’t arrived in time for the end of the race.

Ilkley Harriers' Tom Adams won the event with a fine run of 32.20, with Sarah O'Sullivan coming home in 26th with a time of 41.02.

In terms of our four unlikely heroes, Rob achieved the best time, breaking the one hour barrier with a 58.13. Donna came 567th with a run of 65.35. Sarah and Matt were just behind, crossing the line together in 66.18.

There were 754 runners present for this wonderful occasion.
