TWO Ilkley Harriers teams were among the 123 line-ups who took part in the Danefield Relays at the Chevin last week.

Alison Weston, Nea Weston and Mary Gibbons combined for one team, while Jack Wood and Lyra Weston linked up for the other.

Wood ran the fastest leg of the evening (17.56) with Lyra Weston taking over for the middle section (29.32) before Wood's final leg 18.23 ensured a 17th-place finish.

The other Ilkley line-up finished in 96th position, as Alison Weston (26.43), Nea Weston (31.57) and Gibbons (26.23) all putting in a good shift.

Last Wednesday saw a new 5K series staged on the cycle track of the Brownlee Centre at Bodington Fields.

The course takes in three laps of the track, which is a roadrunner's delight of newly laid tarmac, and as expected it was a fast course. There are five more races in this series which come highly recommended.

Also last week, there was a win for Tom Adams at Stoodley Pike in a time of 18:36.

Emily Elmes had a great run in the HDSRL Handicap Race on Thursday, July 6 to come in second position followed by nine other Ilkley Harriers.

A few Harriers travelled the short distance across the moor to Baildon Carnival for their 'Carnival Canter' and junior races beforehand.

The 'canter' turned out to be a three-mile fell race to a trig point and back.

The senior ladies race was won (21st overall) by Bernadette Raven, one of the Harriers Juniors who had already run the junior one-mile race too!

Jack Wood and Outi Kamarainen took part in the unique Wasdale Horseshoe Fell Race (34k, 2,750m ascent) at the weekend, which serves as an English Champs counter.

Wood finished in seventh position in 4:05.37 with Kamarainen (6:18.42) in 197th.

Ilkley Harriers organised the Addingham Gala fell race up Beamsley Beacon on Saturday and a new record was set by Tom Adams.

Hilda Coulsey ran the other end of the spectrum the following day and completed the flat 10K in Leeds for the Asda foundation, Jane Tomlinson and other charities.

Jane McCarthy was first Harrier home in 40:05 and 121st position.
