BEN Shepperd was a surprise joint winner of the Blubberhouses 25 on Sunday.

The Ilkley Harrier thought he had finished joint second, but discovered the leader had managed to get lost only half a mile from the finish, trotting in forlornly a couple of minutes later.

Shepperd had been part of a breakaway group of four who headed the field by the time they reached Fewston Reservoir.

There was a clear leader as they passed Thurscross before his sense of direction let him down.

Dave Robson, Mike Duffield and Derek Oliver all had good runs and high placings in nan event which is good preparation for the Three Peaks Race.

Ewan Welsh and Mike Baldwin were competing in their first v50 and V60 events at Pendle Fell race on Saturday,with Norman Bush also racing.

The route covers 4.5 miles with 1,500ft of ascent.

Welsh was the first of the Harriers trio to finish and was followed to the line by Bush and Baldwin.

Gavin Lamb took part in the first Dales Trail Series event of the year in Reeth and finished 20th in 1hr 45min 57sec. The race was won by Ben Livsesy in 1:20:37.

The Baildon Boundary Way race on Sunday proved popular with many Harriers.

Steve Coy led the Ilkley contingent home and was closely followed by Jane McCarthy, Kate Archer and Mark Summerson.

Harry Sime, Jo Foster and Neil Pomfret all finished in under two hours.
