HARRY Hepworth is a young gymnast who seems destined for the top.

The 13-year-old Prince Henry's Grammar School student has recently been selected for the National Elite Development Squad.

He trains 25 hours a week at Leeds Gymnastics Club under the guidance of Dave Murray who also coaches Olympic bronze medal winner Nile Wilson and British champion Ashley Watson.

After winning a silver medal in the National Club Grades final in Birmingham in November, the Cookridge youngster was invited to attend a reward camp at Lilleshall National Sports Centre near Newport.

There he was coached by British Gymnastics Head Coach Eddie Van Hoof and the junior men's coach Barrie Collie, and was then invited to attend the National Elite Development Squad first training camp of 2017.

His performance at Newport saw him offered a full place on the squad for 2017.

There are five squad camps throughout the year as well as the opportunity to be selected to represent Great Britain in competitions.

Hepworth was part of the Leeds Gymnastics Club junior men's team which won gold at the British Team Championships in December 2016.

There's a busy period coming up for Hepworth. The British Championships are being held in March with the English Championships following in April where he will be competing at Elite Level 6.

The London Open and Yorkshire Championships in September and the National Grades Finals in Birmingham will round off the teenage starlet's busy year.
