BRACKEN Ghyll Golf Club are celebrating after their triumph in the recent Yorkshire Inter-District Union Junior Club Championship.

The team had already won the Bradford Union club title to earn themselves the chance to represent their district and travel to Middlesbrough for the county-wide competition.

The Addingham-based club amassed 78 stableford points to finish five clear of the host club, who were representing Teesside, and Malton & Norton (York Union).

The team all did their bit in helping Bracken Ghyll triumph, with Daniel Pelkowski and Findlay Robertson both carding 39 points, Pelkowski winning the best individual score on a countback. Harry Parker also weighed in with 24 points.

Club vice-captain Mike Robertson, who is Findlay's father, said: "The boys hadn't had chance for a practice round. They'd won the Bradford event and were playing well but they were going to a strange course and one of the other teams was from Middlesbrough with home advantage.

"It was fantastic and a real surprise for us. The club's still a relatively new one at just over 20 years and this achievement is more than we expected."

The boys now turn their attention to the national finals in Oxford on August 11-12, where two of the members will be flying back from their holiday to take part. William Mawson is set to step in for Parker, who is unavailable.
