FORMER Wimbledon quarter-finalist Yen Hsun-Lu is one of the big names to have entered next month's 42,500 euros AEGON Ilkley Trophy.

The Taiwanese, who is the second- highest entry so far for the ATP Challenger, which is being held from June 11-19, reached the last eight of the world's biggest grass-court tournament in 2010.

The biggest scalp for Lu was fifth seed Andy Roddick, who was defeated 9-7 in the fifth set on 'Manic Monday' in 4hr 36min.

However, Lu, who was only the second player to notch 300 career wins at Challenger level in 2015 and is world-ranked 95, having reached the final of the Seoul Challenger earlier this month, is bettered by one place at Ilkley by Australian Jordan Thompson.

The 22-year-old from Sydney won a round at this year's French Open by defeating Serbia's Laslo Djere, but has had most of his successes this year in China.

Thompson won an an ATP Challenger at An-Ning and reached semi-finals at Nanjing (clay) and Zhuhai (hard).

He has also won a Challenger in Cherbourg and reached the semi-finals in New Caledonia, both on hard courts.

Lu isn't the only player with some Wimbledon pedigree, however, as Colombian Alejandro Falla led Roger Federer by two sets to love in the first round in 2010 and served for the match at 5-4 in the fourth set before losing 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.

Among those players returning after last year's successful inaugural tournament are runner-up Matthew Ebden and quarter-finalists Mirza Basic (Bosnia) and Gregor Zemjla (Slovenia), who both had to qualify.

With the carrot of a wild card into the men's singles at Wimbledon for the Ilkley winner, 28-year-old Australian Ebden wants to go one better than last year's 6-3, 6-4 final defeat to American Denis Kudla.

Basic defeated Kim Coppejans, a member of Belgium's Davis Cup team that lost to Great Britain in the final in November, and Ante Pavic before losing 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 to Kudla, while Zemjla saw off British wild card Marcus Willis and second seed Dudi Sela (Israel) on a final set tie-breaker before bowing to Ivan Dodig (Croatia).

A total of 22 male players have so far registered to take part in Yorkshire's most important tennis tournament, and they also include Jared Donaldson (United States) and Quentin Halys (France), two of the ATP's 'Next Generation' of stars, plus former world junior No 2 Bjorn Fratangelo (United States), Grand Slam doubles finalist Igor Sijsling (Netherlands) and Swiss Davis Cup player Marco Chiudinelli.

The women's entry is due out next week.
