SIXTEEN-year-old Katelyn Entwistle who trains at Ilkley Karate Club, was successful in the International East Open in Halle, Germany.
Entwistle was representing England in the under-21 international championships and managed to secure a bronze medal in the girls black belt kata (set moves) event after qualifying via the repechage. The kumite (free fighting) proved more promising as Entwistle made the semi-finals and was ahead on points until her German counterpart scored a vital point in the last 10 seconds of the match which meant she had to settle for bronze.
Entwistle hopes to repeat her success in Japan later this month along with fellow club members. For more information about the club and classes visit www.ilkleykarate.co.uk
