TOM Adams’ outstanding achievement in 2015 saw him take the award as Ilkley Harriers top male athlete when they held their presentation evening.

He recorded a string of victories on fell, road and cross country and won a bronze medal with the England team at the World Mountain Running Championships.

Jack Wood was the main challenger for the award with wins in the Anniversary Waltz, Dick Hudson’s and Jack Bloor fell races, Addingham gala, Beamsley Beacon and Otley Chevin races.

Jane McCarthy was selected as best female runner after an outstanding year on road and fell. She recorded a personal best of 38minutes 40seconds in the Bradford 10k and finished the Yorkshire Marathon in 3hours 2minutes.

Sally Morley was her main rival for the prize after her good performances in the Yorkshire and National cross country events.

Will Warboys and Helen Waddington were voted the club’s most improved male and female runners. Among those nominated were David Chandler, Dan Hayes, John Hayes, Andrew Merrick, Ben Sheppard and Jack Wood for the men.

Kate Archer, Sally Malir and Lucy Williamson were on the women’s short list.

Dick Waddington was presented with best endurance runner on the road for his excellent Berlin marathon and Brass Monkey runs. He was chosen ahead of Andrew Merrick, Steve Weston and Tom Warboys, who ran three marathons in three weeks.

Sally Malir was presented with best endurance runner on the road for after finishing fourth lady V50 runner in the London Marathon with a new club record of 3:07:00.

Both Norman Bush and Geoff Howard were World Champions in vet 75 and vet 70 respectively at the Masters Mountain Running Championships in Snowdonia in 2015. Howard’s achievement saw him name best male runner over 50

There was lots of competition for the best over 50 female runner with Petra Bijsterveld, Sally Malir and Adela Reperecki being nominated but the award went to Hilda Coulsey for a new 5-mile female vet 60 club record of 41:55.

The Harriers’ junior section continues to go from strength to strength and the under-23 seniors are now reaping the benefits.

Jemima Elgood was presented with best under-23 female award after representing England in the WMRA International Youth Cup Mountain Running in Bulgaria, coming second in the Inter County Fell Championships, and finishing third lady with a new under-18 record at the Stoop.

Lucy Williamson was also nominated following a great year which included an under-18 silver medal in the Yorkshire fell championship.

Dan Hayes (1st harrier at Abbey Dash 37:52, 12th Burley Moor Run), Harry Marsden (4th in Decathlon National Rankings), Ruaridh Mon-Williams and Jack Cummings were nominated with Cummings receiving the award for consistent high placings.

Rob Cunningham and Sharon Meadows were presented with the captains’ award and both Neil Chapman and Shirley Wood a well-deserved award for contribution to the club.
