ILKLEY Grammar School PE teacher Sarah Davies set a new personal best in the snatch at the World Weightlifting Championships in Houston last week.

The 23-year-old former model, who was competing in the women's 69kg category, recorded 89kg in the snatch and 113kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 202kg in the C Group, but narrowly missed out on another personal best of 91kg in the snatch.

Sarah, who recently won gold in Lithuania in the European Under-23 Championships finished 32nd, but was pipped by one place and 2kg by her compatriot and fellow Europa Weightlifting Club member Emily Godfrey.

The Londoner, who was a runner-up in the British Championships, lifted 90kg in the snatch and 114kg in the clean and jerk.
