TOM Adams continued his impressive form in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League by winning the third race of the season at Cliffe Castle, Keighley.

The Ilkley Harriers runner led the field home in a time of 23min 24sec and was 19 seconds ahead of second-placed Emile Cairess of Leeds City.

The second Ilkley runner was Dave Westhead in 47th position with a time of 28:04. Mark Iley, 77th in 30:01, Malcolm Pickering, 94th in 31:37 and Arthur Reilly, 109th in 34:30, also contested the senior men’s race.

Nicky Hopwood led the Ilkley Harriers challenge in the senior women’s race. She was 51st with a time of 27:24.

Hopwood was followed home by Gaenor Coy, 59th in 28:58, Petra Bijsterveld, 65th in 30:10, and Julie Elmes, 77th in 32:14.

The Harriers had record 59 juniors racing and they produced some fine results. The under-11 girls took the team prize thanks to Charlotte Kenneth finishing second, Isabella Moran, eighth and Alphra Hicks 10th. Phoebe Worrall, 12th, Eve Whitaker, 14th, Freya Whiteside, 16th, Evie Dennett, 29th, Robyn Anderson, 31st and Amy Brown-Carrera (46th) all ran well.

The under-11 boys took second place with their three scorers beings Harrison Oddie, ninth, Wilbur Summerson, 11th, and Joshua Marlow, 12th. Max Ashelford, 13th, Theo Clay, 16th, William Spencer , 18th, Rohan Smith 21st, Tom Campbell, 27th, Dylan Shinn, 34th, Oliver Holmes, 40th and Dylan Carr, 42nd, all finished inside the top 50.

The under-15 boys were third with Dominic Coy being their first runner home in fourth place, just ahead of Euan Brennan, who was fifth. Matthew Kenneth was the team’s final scorer in 13th place while Oscar Stapleton, 14th, Francis Westhead, 16th, Robbie Matthews 18th and Harry Barker, 26th, all ran strongly.

The under-17 girls team also achieved third place after another good performance from Jemima Elgood to take sixth place.

Sarah Pickering, eighth, and Lucy Jaques, 14th, were the team’s three scorers. Molly Jeffels, 24th and Elizabeth Westhead, 25th finished well.

Poppy Anderson was Ilkley’s top finisher in the under-13 girls race as she took ninth place. Her team came fourth overall with Caitlin Oddie, 20th, and Ella Hammond, 23rd, Bernadette Raven, 26th, Charlotte Elston, 27th, and Emily Kenneth, 45th, completing the Ilkley contingent.

The under-15 girls had to settle for seventh place despite the efforts of Bethan Morley, 26th, Eva Jeffels, 29th, and Rachel Scott, 30th. Emily Elmes, 32nd, and Ella Shouler-Harris, 34th, were close behind.

Adam Mitchell in 21st place was the best Ilkley finisher in the under-13 boys race where the Ilkley team came eighth. Lewis Carr, 13th, and Reuben Foster, 35th, were their team’s three counters.

A total of 24 Harriers took part in the popular Abbey Dash 10k on Sunday. Daniel Hayes and Rob Cunningham were well under 40 minutes in 37:52 and 38:34 respectively.

David Chandler was close on their heels in 40:56, his second 10k race in three days.

There was also an impressive performance from Geoffrey Howard. He was the first V70 finisher in 42:01.

David Chandler continued his busy racing schedule on Friday by competing in the Nike ‘We Run Dubai’ 10k.

Over 13,000 runners assembled by the Burj Khalifa tower for a 7am start time with the temperatures in the mid-20s and water stations every 2km.

The wide flat roads and combined climb of only 50metres made for a fast course for runners used to the climate. Chandler completed the course in 43:16 minutes.
