PRINCE Henry's Grammar School pupil Georgia Coates topped the podium five times, as well as beating a personal best, in the British Summer Championships in Sheffield.

The City of Leeds member led from the start of the women's 16 years' 200 metres freestyle final at Ponds Forge on the first night and, with 50 metres to go, there was no stopping her as she took gold ahead of Holly Hibbot (Stockport Metro) and Hannah Featherstone (Sedgefield).

The former Ilkley Grammar School pupil then went on to win her second gold of the night in the 200m individual medley ahead of Derventio's Abbie Wood and Millfield's Emma Cain.

Coates added to her medal tally on a record-breaking third evening, winning the 16 years' 100m freestyle in 56.69sec, just 0.01 seconds inside her personal best, and the the women's 16 years' 400m individual medley in 4min 46.86sec.

She then picked up silver in the 16 years' 200m breaststroke in 2min 29.37sec, closing in on Cain’s commanding lead, the Millfield swimmer touching the wall in 2:27.18, and bronze in the women's 16 years' 400m freestyle in 4min 18.76sec.

Coates was also fourth in the women's 16 years' 200m butterfly in 2min 15.36sec and fifth in the 100m breaststroke in 1min 11.03sec.

A delighted Coates said: “I’m so happy – this has been my best British Championships so far.

“Going into this meet, I hadn’t rested as much as normal, but after the first day I gained a lot of confidence which will be really good heading in to the world juniors.

“It’s great to know that I am on form; you never know what might happen in Singapore.”

City of Leeds capped off the five-day championship by winning the women’s 14-16 years' 400m medley relay in 4min 12.20sec via Coates, Amelia Clynes, Layla Black and Kiani Campbell-Grady, taking silver via Coates, Bradford Grammar School pupil Ciara Schlosshan, Amber Mason and Leah Crisp in the women's 14-16 years' 800m freestyle team race, while Coates, Schlosshan, Magdalena Cygan and Eleanor Jones had picked up bronzes earlier in the championships in the women's 14-16 years' 400m freestyle team event.

Schlosshan won golds in the 13-14 years' 200m individual medley in 2min 19.31sec, 400m individual medley in 4min 56.21sec and 100m butterfly in 1min 02.69sec.

She was also second in the 13-14 years' 200m freestyle in 2min 05.96sec, third in the women's 13-14 years' 200m butterfly in 2min 19.85sec and 400m freestyle in 4min 24.24sec and fifth in the 100m freestyle in 59.17sec,

Clynes won the women's 16 years' 100m butterfly in 1min 00.92sec, was second in the women's 16 years' 200m butterfly in 2min 13.12sec and fourth in the women's 16 years' 50m butterfly in 28.24sec.

Former City of Bradford member Myles Stirk (City of Leeds) was third in the men's 15 years' 200m backstroke in 2min 08.53sec, fifth in the 400m individual medley in 4min 39.76sec, ninth in the 200m individual medley in 2min 13.50sec and tenth in the 100m backstroke in 1min 02.18sec.
