THE weekend was a busy one for OTLEY ATHLETICS CLUB with lots of representation in various events.

Club president Matt Podd travelled to Appletreewick to take part in the annual Charlesworth Chase, a BS fell race up and down Simon's Seat, 1201ft of climbing in 5.2 miles.

The race was won by Ted Mason in 36.34min, first lady was Carol Morgan in 50.19 and Matt Podd was 51st in a time of 55.26.

Also on Saturday, Sean O’Halloran travelled to Betwys-y-Coed in Wales to take part in the Inter Counties Fell Running Championships. Sean was the first ever representative from his home county of Suffolk to run in the Inter Counties Fell Running Championships.

The course took runners from the start and finish areas in the picturesque village of Betws-Y-Coed around nearby Forestry in the Snowdonia National Park. The route was seven miles and had total elevation of 1700 feet and used a course similar to the ones that will be used for the World Mountain Running Championships that take place at the same venue in September 2015.

The winner of the senior men’s race was Andrew Douglas from Scotland West in a time of 45.26. The winner of the senior ladies race was Emma Clayton in 40.29 from Yorkshire.

The winning senior men’s team was Yorkshire while the winning senior ladies team was Cumbria. Sean finished in a time of 1:44.02.

The Ripon 10 mile terrain race was on Saturday and again there was a good turn-out by Otley AC members. With similar climbs to that in the Otley 10, being held this year on June 10 (see Otley AC website for details) this was a tough race in places.

The winner was Mike Jefferies from Billingham Marsh AC in 58.48, first lady was Sharon Barlow in 1:06.30 and first home for Otley (1st V55) was Mark Hall in 1:03.51. Also for Otley was Christian Hosker in 1:16.36, Andy Webster in 1:18.17, David Fox in 1:30.47 and Tom Hannah in 1:32:49.

Finally on Saturday was the third running of the Over the Odda 10k. Over the Odda is an inspiring off road run with amazing views and challenging terrain. Otley had an all-female representation at this year’s race.

The winner was Jack Wood from Ilkley Harriers in 39.19, first lady was Jennie Guard from Leeds City AC in 47.13 and first home for Otley AC was Sara Richard in 1.05.3. Also for Otley was Joanna Hobson in 1:08.13, Lisa Maughan in 1:09.13 and Ann Yeadon in 1:09.14.

The second race in the John Carr 5K series was won by Marc Fenwick (Tyne Bridge Harriers) in 15.4. First lady was Helen Singleton (Wakefield Harriers) in 17.28.

First home for Otley in second place was Scott Harrington in 15.53. Also for Otley were Zack Whitehead in 15.59, Tom Midgley in 17.06, Mark Hall in 17.24, Tony Walker in 20.55, Nicola Lee in 22.20, Toni Midgley in 25.55 and Donald Buffham in 26.57.

Graham Lake travelled to Cumbria with his family and took part in the Fairfield Horseshoe fell race. The race is classed as an AM fell race, 14.5km with 914m of climbing. The winner was Rob Jebb for Bingley in 1:20.26; first lady was Sharon Taylor for Helm Hill in 1:39.53 and 32nd place. Graham finished 74th place in 1.52.22.
