ILKLEY Harriers starlet Georgia Malir produced a winning performance for England at the weekend.

The talented 17-year-old came home first in the junior women’s race at the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge in Keswick.

Georgia recorded a time of 22min 32sec and her performance helped England win the overall cup.

England had three runners in top team which was key to their success.

Keighley & Craven’s Zara Knappy came home fourth in 23:52 while Lizzy Apsley was sixth in 25:34.

It was a performance which underlined again Malir’s continued development into a class performer.

Also representing England was her Ilkley Harriers colleague Tom Adams.

A prolific winner on the local scene, Adams came tenth this time in the senior men’s race which attracted a strong field.

He returned a time of 42:24 in a race won by England’s Andi Jones.

The spectacular route, starting from Seathwaite, takes in 29km and 1830m ascent including the summits of Little Stand and Swirl How.

Will Buckton represented Ilkley and finished 26th in a field of 111 fell runners.

The trophy continues this weekend at the Ennerdale Horseshoe, which is also a counter in the British and English Fell Championships.

Ilkley’s top fell runners are expected to run, including Dave Wilby, Dan Wilkinson and Ben Sheppard, with Alison Weston, Jann Smith and Kate Archer.

The ladies are expected to be among the contenders for the team prize.
