WOODHOUSE Grove School took the Rosslyn Park HSBC National Sevens Tournament by storm last week and did Yorkshire proud as the only team in the country to take home two pieces of silverware.
The tournament began in 1939 and has evolved into the world's largest rugby tournament with 7,000 boys and girls aged 13-18 competing annually.
Woodhouse Grove School (WGS) entered three teams into the 2017 tournament and all of them reached finals ay in their year groups.
The under-14s, who have won 34 out of their 36 sevens matches this season, beat Millfield school 31-5 in the National Plate and went on to become champions with a 38-21 victory against Marlborough College in the final.
The under-18s, won all three of their matches in the Plate competition against Merchiston Castle of Scotland, Barnard Castle and the Wasps Academy School, Henley College.
They claimed overall victory with a 19-14 win against Daily Mail Trophy Champions, Wellington College in the final.
Meanwhile, the under-16s were placed in the top eight in the Colts competition – no mean feat when there were 174 teams competing.
Rugby talent clearly runs in some Woodhouse Grove families. Under-14 player, Sam Kildunne was joined at Rosslyn Park by his sister and Old Grovian, Ellie Kildunne who was playing for the AASE Cup Champions, Hartpury College.
