Yorkshire Division Two: Thornensians 21 Old Grovians 13
ALTHOUGH neither side were at their best, Old Grovians were left to rue not taking their second-half opportunities from line-outs and scrums.
They took the lead with a penalty from Ben Brown, who had missed an earlier attempt, but the home side responded quickly with a converted try in the corner after creating an overlap.
Play then became scrappy before turnover ball allowed Brown to put Alex Masterson in for a try.
The visitors then got the benefit of a 50-50 call on who touched down a kick to their line, but Thorne then intercepted a loose pass to go in for a converted try before half-time.
Leading 14-8, the south Yorkshiremen soon bagged another converted try in the second half.
Old Grovians, however, were then largely camped in the Thorn half, winning their own line-outs and Thornes' but often losing possession from untidy tap-backs.
With ten minutes left, the visitors finally capitalised from a line-out, taking the ball in and driving over for Jaskaran Deu to score.
The conversion was missed, however, as was a later penalty as Old Grovians missed their chance to pick up a bonus point.
