LONG-serving Mark Luffman is no longer head coach of Otley.

Rugby chairman Nick Girling has put a statement in tomorrow’s programme for the home National League Two North match against Scunthorpe which reads: “Last Sunday night the club took the decision to part company with Mark Luffman as head coach.

“The executive decided that the club need a different direction.”

The Cross Green club thanked Luffman for his services and wished him all the best for the future.

The statement added that they will continue with the existing coaching staff under director of rugby Peter Clegg, and that all of their efforts will now be focused on avoiding relegation. A further decision will be made at the end of the season.

Otley have lost their last five league matches, including a 30-5 defeat at bottom club Preston Grasshoppers on Saturday, and are in danger of dropping into the relegation dogfight.

The Cross Greeners are only three points above Harrogate, who are just four points in front of Wharfedale.

A total of five clubs will go down from National League Two North and South.
