OTLEY Rugby Union Football Club are joining a local tradition of staging a match on Boxing Day.

Prince Henry’s Grammar School Barbarians, who will include Otley players in lock Simon Willet and hooker Will Rigg and will be coached by former Prince Henry's teacher Pete Latham MBE, will meet an Otley XV at 2pm.

Entrance is £5 (under-18s are free), and the proceeds will be shared between new kit and equipment for Prince Henry's first and second XVs and the Nathan Cubitt Trust.

Nathan broke his neck playing in a colts match for Keighley on November 6, 2011.

Latham said: "It's great to be back and coaching such a strong side for such a good cause.

"Lots of these lads are Henry's boys who know each other in both teams but you can expect a competitive game if I've got anything to do with it!"

Prince Henry's Grammar School Barbarians' kit has been sponsored by JM Glendinning Insurance Brokers and consultants DBK.

Prior to the main match there will be a tag rugby curtain raiser at 12.30pm between Otley Over-40s Christmas Elves and Prince Henry's Grammar School Over-40s Christmas Santas.

Nookie's Half-Time Conversion Challenge will take place at about 2.45pm (£50 to the winner, £2 entry) involving five conversions from across the 22-metre line, and there will be a raffle after the game, where prizes will include signed shirts from England internationals and former Prince Henry's Grammar School pupils Danny Care, Paul Hill and Jack Walker.

First-XV coach Chris Smith said: "Without JM Glendinning and DBK, this game simply could not have taken place – their sponsorship of the kit is what allowed us to really get organising everything else. We are extremely grateful to them for their support.”

Duncan Berry, of DBK, added: “It’s a pleasure to help the school and the club – we wish both teams the best of luck.”
