STUART Brewer looks set for a dramatic return after long-term injury for promotion-chasing Ilkley.

The experienced No 8 smashed the club’s try-scoring record last season and he is in line to make his first appearance of the current campaign at Old Crossleyans on Saturday.

He tested out his knee injury in a recent second-team game and is the leading contender to fill the void created by the absence of the influential Ollie Renton for the second-placed Dalesmen’s crucial North One East game.

Will Davies, who has impressed for the seconds in recent weeks, is also in contention for a match where Ilkley will also be without second row James Colclough.

His place is expected to go to James Spencer when the selectors finalise their line-up for the trip to Halifax.

The sight of experienced back row players Iain McKenzie, Nick Carolan and Rupert Gartland all back in training is a further boost as the season reaches its climax.

Coach Rhys Morgan, who is mindful of the fact that the struggling Old Crossleyans defeated leaders Sheffield at home recently, is pleased to have more options available to him.

“It is good to see Brewer, McKenzie, Carolan and Gartland all back training. They are all good players and it will be a boost to have them playing again,” said Morgan.

“Brewer has been working hard for a couple of weeks now and just needs game time. We all know what he did last season and it is good to see him playing again.”

Two of Ilkley’s talented young players were on the scoresheet as Yorkshire scored a crushing 63-3 win over Cornwall at Camborne on Sunday to secure their place in the final of the Under-20 County Championship.

Winger Ben Magee scored a hat-trick of tries while centre Elliot Morgan got one for Yorkshire, who will now meet Berkshire in the final at Twickenham on Sunday, May 3.

Magee, who has made such a big impression since joining the Dalesmen from Old Grovians, has been selected to play for the North at Easter.
