ILKLEY have two good reasons for wanting revenge when they tackle Wheatley Hills at Stacks Field on Saturday.

The visitors have already beaten the Dalesmen twice this season, knocking them out of the Yorkshire Cup 36-34 and beating them 37-32 in North One East in October.

Ilkley’s 25-game unbeaten home record is on the line and coach Rhys Morgan is keen to make sure that Wheatley Hills don’t complete a hat-trick of victories over his side.

Morgan said: “We have learned a few things from the early matches. It is important that we get the tempo of the game up and bring our backs into play.

“Wheatley Hills have a strong pack and like to drive down the middle before spinning the ball out. Kris Fullman is their coach and is a good friend of mine. I don’t want him beating me again.

“I am sure it will be a tough game but these are the sort of matches where we have to get a result if we want to win promotion. I can’t help but admire the way that Sheffield keep grinding out results – even when they are not at their best.”

Morgan was delighted that two members of his squad, winger Ben Magee and centre Elliott Morgan – his son – helped Yorkshire under-20s reach the quarter-finals of the County Championship.

They were in the team that beat North Midlands 38-17 at York on Sunday and will now play away to Cornwall on March 15.

“It is great for the club to have the performances of our young players recognised,” said Morgan.

“It helps spread the word and is another feather in the cap for our junior section which is bringing a stream of players through.”
