FIVE-try Paul Petchey was the toast of the Stacks Field crowd as he inspired Ilkley to a 48-16 win over Driffield.

His searing pace and all-round performance was the perfect response to have been left on the replacements' bench a few weeks ago.

Coach Rhys Morgan said: "I have been delighted with the way he has played since coming back into the side. We had a little chat with him about how to create openings for himself and he has certainly done that.

"He has great pace and the five tries he scored on Saturday show just what he is capable of when he is on top of his game.

"Competition for the two wing positions is tough. Young Ben Magee, our top try scorer ,was on the bench on Saturday while JH Johnson has only just come back after having to wait his turn.

"It is great for us to have three quality wingers because they have the pace to capitalise on the 15-man game we like to play."

Ilkley reach the halfway point in the North One East campaign on Saturday when they visit second-placed Percy Park.

Ilkley, who have a 100 per cent record, have yet to hit the same heights on the road. "Apart from the defeat at Northern, we haven't been performing badly on our travels, but we haven't had the same level of success either. Most of our five defeats have been by small margins, but it will be good if we can win at Percy Park.

"They are a good side who play a similar style of rugby to us and that should make for an interesting encounter."
