Ben Rhydding’s under-tens have become the first girls’ team from the club ever to win a North championship.

They followed up their triumph in the Yorkshire tournament by coming through their group against Alderley Edge and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Alderley Edge took the lead against Ben Rhydding, who soon levelled. Eleanor Pilling fired the ball out of defence to Lauren Day, whose neat pass to Phoebe Ogden allowed the latter to drive the ball down the right flank before slipping it to Alice Jackson to score.

Ben Rhydding then passed the ball around confidently, prolific scorer Ogden (2), Jackson and Day netting. They then showed no mercy to Kirby Lonsdale, beating them 9-0, Jackson (4), Ogden (2), Day, Kirsty McMillan and Evie Malir all netting, Claudia Dobson ensuring a clean sheet with three fine saves.

In the semi-finals, the Ilkley club faced Deeside Ramblers from Cheshire and won 3-0 with goals from Day, Jackson and Ogden.

Final opponents were Alderley Edge, and Abigail Prentic put Ben Rhydding ahead in the second half, Jackson wrapping matters up by scoring twice, Pilling, Prentice and Dobson shining.
