Ben Rhydding 1sts 5 Preston 2nds 0

AFTER a tight and tense first-half, Ben Rhydding turned on the style after the break to record a convincing victory over Preston 2nds on Saturday.

Similar to their performance last week, Ben Rhydding had plenty of possession in the first period but could not turn it into points.

They took more than 50 minutes to trouble the scoreboard; Callum Franks sprinting to keep a long ball in play and Rob Ramsden slipping it through for the dogged Max Helme to find a way to get it over the line.

The second was a great individual effort from George Gamble, weaving his way in and out of a cluster of players and slotting it in off a defender.

Will Musgrave made it 3-0, winning a corner and then scoring from it. Matty Birch then slung a beautiful ball into the circle for the fourth and Max Helme got a clinical touch on it to deflect into the goal.

Matty Bairstow had the last word, making it 5-0 just inside the final whistle, popping away a selfless pass from Lewis Wild with a tidy finish.

A smooth second half performance saw Rhydding play with confidence and unity, and a particularly pleasing game from youngster Charlie Day gives great hope for the future.

They will be hoping they can find this form on March 3 when they face Harrogate away from home.
