North Men's League: Ben Rhydding 7 Gateshead 1

BEN Rhydding turned a corner with this sparkling performance at home to Gateshead.

The hosts played delightful hockey in an impressive team display.

Will Musgrave opened the scoring with a bullet of a corner, and Max Helme made it 2-0 after picking the tiniest of gaps to beat the keeper from a corner.

Helme scored again for 3-0, connecting skilfully with a great ball from Callum Franks.

Franks and Helme set up the next goal, opening up the defence and crossing the ball for Andrew Lorimer to dive at full stretch and spike the ball into the roof of the net for a spectacular finish.

Gateshead got one back on the half-time whistle with a corner but never really got into the game thereafter.

Rhydding began the second half in fine form, and patience in their build-up play was rewarded with a corner that Musgrave gobbled up with a great drag flick for the fifth goal.

George Gamble’s work rate and mazy running were rewarded with a goal on the post, and Matty Bairstow had the last word with an exceptional individual goal to make it 7-1.

Ben Rhydding, now in mid-table, are at Preston this weekend.
