Ben Rhydding 0 Whitley Bay 4

BEN Rhydding were left to rue a succession of missed chances as they suffered a North Men's League Premier Division defeat.

They created a number of openings in the early stages but just could not find the crucial finishing touch.

Whitley Bay were always dangerous on the break and their first goal came from a counter attack.

Rhydding keeper, Chris McSherry did well to save the initial shot but slack marking ,enabled Whitley Bay to score from the rebound.

Rhydding were only 1-0 down at the break but Whitley Bay came out confidently for the second half and an easy turnover in midfield led to a second goal.

Despite outstanding defensive work from Neil Sugden and Giles Flatt, Bay created overloads far too easily and added two further goals.

Ben Rhydding Men's 2nds 3 Airedale 2

TWO second-half goals from Charlie Smith enabled Ben Rhydding to come from behind to secure victory.

Rhydding started the game brightly and both Andrew Lorimer and Will Tench went close before their side took the lead.

Tom Burton earned an early Rhydding short corner from which Tench scored by hitting the ball straight through the keeper's legs.

This woke up Airedale and Will Benedikz was forced to make a number of saves before Airedale equalised. The goal lifted Airedale and they scored a second early in the second half.

Lorimer deflected a pass from the lively Burton onto the bar before Smith equalised with 14 minutes to go.

Smith also scored the winner when he drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net from a short corner routine.
