Ben Rhydding 14 Wakefield 2nds 2

BEN Rhydding looking sparkling in their new away kit and scored after 29 seconds in this extraordinary performance against a Wakefield side currently propping up the North Men's League Division One.

The visitors chased the first push back down, Will Musgrave ripped the ball off the full back and Matty Bairstow pulled his opponent away to open up space for Max Helme who took a deft touch on Musgrave’s ball to put it past the keeper who was still trying to direct his defenders.

Matty Bairstow scored a stunning deflection for number two, Connor Dowley fizzed a shot in for number three and Musgrave sliced a corner home for the fourth.

Matthew Ramshaw smashed in the fifth with a forehand strike. Number six saw Callum Franks drive into the circle and thump it through the keeper’s legs.

The seventh came from some lovely individual work from Ramshaw, finishing with a lethal reverse shot.

He completed his hat-trick when he netted the eighth goal after a helpful ball from Elliot Dowley set him up at the top of the circle.

Wakefield were first to score in the second half when a corner deflected unluckily into the net off Ramshaw.

Rhydding got going again and beautiful connections through midfield from Robert Ramshaw and Elliot Dowley created an easy overload to give Helme a simple tap-in.

Another goal for Wakefield kept them interested, Rhydding letting a ball through from midfield in a slack moment.

Thereafter, the game was all Rhydding’s as they played champagne hockey and kept the most impressive work rate to the end.

Musgrave scored the tenth goal, flicking it over the keeper after Max Helme delivered a perfect pass. Matty Bairstow scored the most magnificent goal for the 11th, sliding to deflect the ball from Musgrave into the roof of the net with a breathtaking finish.

It was Bairstow that provided the selfless pass for the 12 goal, slipping the ball to Ramshaw who flicked it into the goal.

Lucky for Helme, the 13th came from a five-pass move which was finished by Helme on the post.

The last word lay with skipper, Musgrave, scoring an unprecedented fourteenth goal to give Ben Rhydding an extraordinary victory.
