Newcastle University 0 Ben Rhydding 1

BEN Rhydding overcame a stern test against their nearest challengers in North Division One to maintain their five-point lead.

Rhydding had to play with a smaller squad due to some unexpected unavailability at the last minute and this meant their decision making began to suffer as their players tired late in the game when they would normally be replaced.

The dynamic Robert Ramsden scored the only goal in the first half. He took matters into his own hands by driving through swathes of defenders before playing a delightful one-two with Andrew Lorimer before finding the net.

The game was tightly contested and neither side was able to gain momentum. Newcastle looked to break down play and Rhydding could not get going.

Will Rutter was exceptional in goal and thoroughly deserved to be named man of the match after making several top-class saves.

Danny Foster and Neil Sugden were flawless in defence and were simply a joy to watch gliding in and out of contact and commanding the shape of the game.

Matty Bairstow was relentless in his leading and defending from the front and Max Helme was very difficult to handle.

Despite several good circle entries, Rhydding did not stretch their lead and had to settle for a 1-0 win.
